WEGAME 3.0: how did the third festival of interactive entertainment in Kyiv go?

On April 8–9 within the Art-zavod Platforma, Smile-Expo has held WEGAME 3.0 festival. The event has brought together thousands of video games, innovative technologies and cosplay enthusiasts for the third time.

The general media partner was TV channel NLO TV, while Interkassa became a lanyard sponsor. Reliability of Wi-Fi at the festival was provided by Ruckus Wireless.


The festival demo zone presented technological novelties, video games, applications and a lot of activities for WEGAME 3.0 attendees organized by the exhibitors.
Exclusive partner of the event, Samsung Electronics Ukraine, demonstrated a new curved display with quantum dots LC27FG70FQIXCI.

Stand of HyperX, which was the eSports tournament sponsor, among other items, included a computer mouse for gamers Pulsefire. Its official release on the Ukrainian market is to be held in the summer at the earliest. Each festival attendee was able to test company’s devices, as well as all the products of the exhibitors.

The following stand were especially popular:

•    Ubisoft;
•    gametree;
•    The Farm 51; 
•    Zona51;
•    CosmoLabz.

Visitor could also enjoy table games and stands with various geek products: comic books, figurines, toys, badges, posters, etc.

Lecture Hall

During the two days of open lectures held on the main stage of the festival, the floor was taken by 12 experts from Ukraine, Poland and the USA.

Game development topic was covered by the following speakers:

•    John Uke (GameTree);
•    Wojciech Pazdur (The Farm 51);
•    Pavlo Lenets (Arrible VR);
•    Roman Samchuk (ITVDN);
•    Artem Samoylenko and Alexander Blagodarenko (Uni-Bit Studio Inc.).

Reports on various aspects of eSports was presented by:

•    Dmitriy Makarov (; 
•    Pavlo Kovalenko (Anima Unity);
•    Dmitriy Lut and Yevgeniy Shabalkin (IMPULSE LAB).

As part of the lectures, there was also a report dedicated to cosplay realities, made by Ren ‘Juicy Juice’ Gazar (CosWave). Nikolay Yakovenko told about the history of game consoles, while Alexander Pushkar ( revealed secrets of creating a successful video game channel on YouTube.

E-sports tournaments: WEGAME VaultCup and WEGAME FIFA17 CHAMP

WEGAME VaultCup tournament on CS:GO, LoL and Dota 2 was organized by VAULT under the sponsorship of HyperX. Despite the fact that the contest was an amateur one, each discipline included strong teams that showed quite high results.

Winning teams are:

•    LoL – Vault Team;
•    Dota 2 – Podval.

E-sports football championship WEGAME FIFA17 CHAMP was held by eSports Dynamo Kyiv and ESFU. Winner of the e-football competitions became Dmitriy ‘CrazyInLove’ Krashevskiy. The second place in FIFA17 matches belongs to Yaroslav ‘Adleror’ Melnichenko, and the third – to Denis ‘Phoenix’ Evtushik.


For the first time, the festival included a ceremony of awarding video game developers WEGAME Awards. Large studios and independent startups competed seriously for the acknowledgment of festival visitors and jury members. Projects of the participants were evaluated by a team of 13 experienced game development experts, who determined the best games in 10 nominations.

The two most popular categories were Best Studio Game and Best Indie Game. Winner in the first nomination is Varenje by Komar Games, while the title of the best indie game was given to Sayri Adventure, developed by the Vidloonnya Reborn team.

Cosplay show

Partner of the WEGAME 3.0 cosplay show was the NLO TV channel. This competition has traditionally become the main adornment of the festival. During the performances of the participants, visitors from all zones gathered near the main stage. There were three categories for cosplayers over the age of 18: “Films, cartoons and serials”, “Comics and fiction”, “Video games”, as well as nominations “From 12 to 17 years old” and “From 3 to 11 years old”. Visitors of WEGAME 3.0 noted that the scale of the event has grown, but nevertheless it doesn’t affect the friendly atmosphere of the event. Smile-Expo will continue to work on the development of the Ukrainian game development industry. The next festival, WEGAME 4.0, will be even more significant, interesting and large-scale!
