March 1, we will hold the first event in Istanbul (Turkey): Blockchain & Bitcoin Conference Turkey. It is a conference dedicated to cryptocurrencies, blockchain, and ICOs. It will primarily focus on the integration of decentralized technologies and the regulation of cryptocurrencies and blockchain.
Events of this series will take place in 30 cities of various countries in 2018. We select prospective platforms for blockchain events, and Turkey has the strong potential for Bitcoin, other cryptocurrencies, and blockchain services.
Adoption of Bitcoin and blockchain in Turkey
In 2016, Bitcoin started gaining popularity in Turkey after the turmoil period. The country’s Central Bank supported such an attitude, hoping that cryptocurrency would restore population’s purchasing power, although Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan criticized it at that time.
In 2017, two bitcoin exchanges (Lira-Bitcoin and BTCTurk) and several cryptocurrency services (including Payza and Bitwala) operated in Turkey. Besides, one installed a crypto ATM in Istanbul Ataturk Airport. Bitcoin obtained a fresh impetus for popularity due to the cancellation of PayPal.
Currently, 45% of Turkish citizens believe that digital currencies, such as Bitcoin, will become the main currency for Internet purchases. The greatest amount of respondents answering in the affirmative to the question “Have you used Bitcoin over the past year?” appeared to be in Turkey. In 2018, country’s authorities changed their attitude to Bitcoin: the Vice-Prime Minister of Turkey recently announced that the working group affiliated to the government was exploring cryptocurrencies for the state project.
