Recently, a lot of significant and high profile events have taken place in the gambling industry: opening of the Center of tracking the interactive bet transactions, increase in the number of bookmakers, signing of a law on targeted deductions in favor of sports competitions.
In addition, the popularity of online gambling is growing rapidly, and new casinos are opened in gaming zones. The industry is actively developing and generating revenue.
Betting: Center of tracking the interactive bet transactions, new market players and law on deductions
At the beginning of last year, the first Center of tracking the interactive bet transactions started its operation, and at the end of 2016 the number of registered users exceeded 500 thousand. Later on, the same center was opened by self-regulating organization (SRO) “Association of Bookmakers”. By the way, now seven bookmakers officially accept bets: Liga Stavok, Olimp, Fonbet, 1xStavka, Leon, WinLineBet and 888.ru.
This year, on April 1, a law on deductions was adopted. According to it, bookmakers are forced to pay target deductions for the development of sports (about 60 million rubles a year) for accepting bets on competitions held by Russian sports leagues or federations. In addition, the law implies the expansion of channels for bookmaking promotion. Previously, owners of betting businesses had the right to place advertisements inside their facilities, during night TV and radio broadcasts, and also in specialized publications. Now advertising channels also include: online resources of sports publications, professional sports leagues and federations, uniform of players and sports facilities.
As for all the above opportunities, bookmakers shouldn’t pay deductions for accepting bets on the events of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, as its organizer is FIFA, and not the Russian sports federation. Thus, the innovation provides domestic bookmakers with huge opportunities for profit at the upcoming championship.
Despite this, some owners of the betting business are dismissive of legislative changes and plan to stop accepting bets on Russian events in order not to pay deductions.
Casino: development of online gambling and gaming zones
RBC experts presented a report for 2016, according to which the popularity of online casinos has grown by 4% since 2015, and the share of paid services in gambling accounts for 19% of the total number of purchases on the Internet, taking into account the fact that Roskomnadzor regularly blocks a huge number of illegal resources with gambling content.
Early this year, the first gambling complex Sochi Casino and Resort was opened. And recently, casino management was the first in Russia to implement a strategy of responsible gaming, which involves alerting visitors about a need to make a pause in gambling. This practice is widespread in high profile gambling facilities around the world.
Another good news: to attract tourists and investors to gaming zones, the Russian government decided to simplify the procedure for applying for a visa for residents of 18 countries, including China, Japan, the United Arab Emirates and Singapore. To obtain an entry permit, tourists should only file an electronic application.
