Cyprus is the southmost point in the geography of Smile-Expo blockchain events. On November 30, we will host Blockchain & Bitcoin Conference in Limassol (Republic of Cyprus). The event key topic will be the cryptocurrency legal regulation in the country: such a relevant issue for Cyprus despite its reputation as a blockchain-friendly state.
Participants and speakers
Besides government representatives, Blockchain & Bitcoin Conference Cyprus will involve blockchain startups, investors, consulting companies, and experts from various European countries. According to our preliminary estimates, the conference audience will consist of more than 300 people, while 20-25 companies will be engaged in the exhibition. The event will take place at the Crowne Plaza Limassol hotel located by the sea near the historic center of the city.
The conference will mainly focus on the cryptocurrency legal regulation in Cyprus. This issue will be revealed in presentations by Theodosis Mourouzis (research fellow at the Centre for Blockchain Technologies) and Ashley Kemball-Cook (Business Development Lead at Quadre). The conference will also allow to discuss a global value of the blockchain and cryptocurrencies, investments in decentralized projects, and national blockchain integration strategies.
Adoption of blockchain and cryptocurrencies in Cyprus
Cyprus authorities have never offered to prohibit cryptocurrencies. As far back as 2014, the country’s central bank stated: “Bitcoin is not illegal”.
Nowadays, there are several foreign blockchain companies registered in the republic, and the State treats them positively as well as the fact that many citizens store their savings in cryptocurrency.
The Republic of Cyprus has its own cryptocurrency exchange called Authenta Trade. It also has the world’s first higher educational establishment accepting bitcoin payments for the education – The University of Nicosia (UNIC). It allows to obtain a Master’s degree in digital currencies.
However, participants of Cyprus blockchain community still face a lot of challenging issues in their operations, including a legal status of cryptocurrencies and ICOs. To cope with them, we are organizing Blockchain & Bitcoin Conference Cyprus. Smile-Expo is also aiming to support young community participants, offering students the special ticket price.
