Blockchain & Bitcoin Conference Philippines: cryptocurrency experts discussed blockchain trends and set goals for the future

On December 6, Smile-Expo hosted the second Blockchain & Bitcoin Conference Philippines  this year. Many experts including the head of the Cagayan Economic Zone Authority (CEZA) attended the event that focused on blockchain and cryptocurrencies.

Discussion topics

The conference brought together leading blockchain specialists of the Philippines and cryptocurrency experts of different countries. Speakers addressed essential issues of the blockchain market and discussed up-to-date industry trends.

Opening speech

The conference was opened by Raul L. Lambino, the Chief Executive Officer of the CEZA – the only economic zone of the Philippines that regulates blockchain companies and issues licenses to cryptocurrency exchanges.

The expert gave a welcome speech telling about the crypto valley of Asia and CEZA. Raul L. Lambino marked directions for future development and stressed the importance of developing not only the financial sector but also the digital economy as a whole.

Alternatives to blockchain

Co-founder and Chief Community Officer of Satoshi Citadel Industries (SCI) Miguel Cuneta addressed the relevancy of blockchain. During his speech, the expert raised the question “To decentralize or not?”

Cuneta told about the disadvantages of the blockchain technology. According to him, the technology is developing slowly, technical support costs a lot, and scaling problems are difficult to solve. “Centralization is much simpler,” the specialist explained.

Private blockchains

Founder of Tagcash Mark Vernon told guests how private blockchains function illustrating his story with case studies of MultiChain and Stellar.

At first, he explained why one should use MultiChain. Reasons include individual mining and a possibility to build an unlimited number of assets, among other things.

Then the expert shared how to add and retrieve data using MultiChain blockchain and thoroughly analyzed the technology.

“Use private blockchains if you need control over assets, abidance by rules, and efficient data storage,” the speaker said in conclusion.

Smart contracts and legislation

Conference program also included a panel discussion, where experts spoke about smart contracts and juridical aspects related to blockchain.

Rafael Padilla, co-founder of Blockchain Association of the Philippines (BAP), was a moderator of the discussion. Together with other crypto experts, he introduced the audience to the legislative side of the industry and told about tokenization in business.
